Kenya Inspired Nail Art

- SOME PRODUCTS PROVIDED FOR REVIEW -

Hello guys, I hope you are all having a nice weekend so far! Today's nail art is a bit different from usual - a few nail artists on Instagram and myself came up with the idea to post a manicure to raise awareness for the recent tragedy in Kenya. (For those of you who are not aware of what happened, 147 people were killed in an attack on Garissa University College, and hundreds were injured. You can read up on the story here - although this article does not contain graphic images, please be warned that the content may still be upsetting for some.)

To get inspired for this manicure, I looked up some landscape photos of Kenya, and found this gorgeous image of giraffes at sunset, and decided to recreate it on my nails:

To achieve this look, I started with a base of I Scream Nails Sunny Boy. Once that was dry, I used a fan brush to swipe on a gradient using NCLA Call My Agent and Essie Dress to Kilt. Then, I took KBShimmer Eclipse and a small paintbrush, and painted on my "giraffes" and my favorite part of the manicure - the tree on my index nail. I topped everything off with matte top coat.

I have to admit, I am really not thrilled with how the giraffes turned out - it's definitely been a while since I've tried more detailed freehand art, and I think it shows in this manicure. However, I love the "sloppy" look of the gradient! I will definitely use the fan brush method again to create a background gradient, since it's so easy.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this manicure! Do you think it is a good idea to raise awareness for different causes using nail art?
